Treasure Your Spiritual Birthright

Genesis 25:32‭-‬34 NKJV
32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” 33 Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

When Esau was tired and hungry, his physical need was all that matters. He was willing to trade his birthright and sold it Jacob for merely some bread and lentils stew. Thus, the Bible said Esau despised his birthright.

This sounds ridiculous and you may think that you will never do it. But how very often we find ourselves allowing the needs and lust of our flesh to overrule our spirit.

Heb 12:16-17 warns us not to be fornicator or a profane person like Esau to lose his birthright for a morsel of food and was unable to inherit his blessings.

Our life is a sum of all about the choices that we have made. Each day we make many choices throughout the day. We choose the way we spend our time, our money, whom we want to be with, what we want to eat, where we want to go and the list goes on.

If we want to to live our life well, we need to make our choices wisely and intently, not casually.  Especially when it comes to our position in Christ, we should treasure and guard it.

When we are born again, we become children of God and receive our spiritual birthright. It comes along with spiritual inheritance and blessings. However if we treat it lightly and live a casual ungodly lifestyle according to the lust of our flesh, we can lose our birthright.

Let's make godly choices daily. Life a lifestyle that will build your faith and your spirit man. Make wise and spirit-led choices that draw you closer to God and strengthen your position in Christ.

We need to learn to discard old habits and thinking that will hinder us from hearing and obeying God. But instead, be conscious and conscientious to constantly inquire of the Lord and He will gently lead and guide us into all truth and an abundant life in Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, sorry for the times when I allow the needs of my flesh to take over my spirit man. Forgive me and help me to make godly choices led by the Holy Spirit. I will treasure my spiritual birthright and live a life that is pleasing unto You. Amen.

Blessings,
Hazel Ashley
