Our Life as a Burnt Offering
I Chronicles 16:40-41 NKJV
40 to offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering regularly morning and evening, and to  do according to all that is written in the Law of the Lord which He commanded Israel; 41 and with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who were chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the Lord , because His mercy endures forever;
In the old Testament, animals were being used as sacrifices in burnt offerings. In the New Testament, Jesus himself became the sacrifice on the Cross to paid for our sins. He was the living sacrifice offered up as a burnt offering unto the Lord.
Jesus has set an example for us. Just as he has taken up the Cross, we are to take up our cross daily. And just as he became the burnt offering, we are to offer up our lives as living sacrifices, a burnt offering unto the Lord.
God has redeemed us back to Himself. As we are saved, we must no longer live as if we are orphans. But we are to live as His children. Our life belongs to Him. We cannot live our life casually as if there is no God. We need to set our lives apart for Him to live in consecration and holiness.
Jesus himself chose to lay his life down as a sacrifice (John 10:18). No one can make him do it. He willingly went up to the Cross. Likewise, taking up the cross and offering up our life daily as living sacrifices is a choice and decision that we need to willingly make and do it on our own. God loves us and He will not force it upon us to do it.
Just as in the old testament the burnt offerings were offer regularly morning and evening and people were even appointed to give thanks to the Lord, let us dedicate our lives and give thanks to God daily for He is good and His mercy endures forever.
Prayer:
Lord, I offer up my life as a living sacrifice, a burnt offering unto You. I choose to live my life being set apart for You. Let my offering become that sweet smelling aroma and be pleasing unto You. Amen.
Blessings,
Hazel Ashley
