Making sense of the good, bad and the ugly

Image
We tend to look at our life events and classify them as good, bad or ugly. We look at them and evaluate if our decisions were wise. When the outcome is good, we rejoice and celebrate. When the outcome is bad, we regret and mourn over it. Although we try as much to plan for our future, we are limited by our human capacity and may look at things in a more micro view. But God is able to view our life in both the macro and the micro perspective. God sees things differently from us. He is able to assess our entire life from the helicopter view. Isa 55:9 says His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts than our thoughts. God does not classify our life events in the way we do. To God, every detail and everything that happens in our life is a piece of jigsaw puzzle on its own. There is nothing good or bad about it. Each detail and event is but a necessary piece to fit into the big picture that completes the puzzle. Every piece in a jigsaw puzzle is cut and shaped for a specific fit....

Knowing the will of God (Part 3)

Matthew 22:37 37 Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart , with all your soul , and with all your mind .’ Here are some practical ways we can seek the kingdom of God: Align your heart with God’s heart. Psalm 33:13-15 The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. God know’s our hearts. But do we know God’s heart? We have to align our heart with God’s. *Ezekiel 28:2 and v6 “... you set your heart as the heart of a god…” It is possible that we can set our heart as the heart of a god. Having the heart of a person is like loving what the person loves, feeling how the person feels and disliking what the person dislikes. When you have the heart of a person, you are constantly having this feeling of wanting this person more. Likewise, we have to constantly be fe...

Knowing the Will of God (Part 2)

Matthew 6:9-13 New King James Version (NKJV)   In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as  it is  in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. In Matthew chapter 6, after Jesus taught the disciples about the Lord’s prayer, Jesus said to them, “Do not worry…” 3 times . (From v14 to v34, 20 verses.) v25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life…” v31 “Therefore do not worry...:” v34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow…” The way Jesus put it, it is almost like an order. It is a concluding statement . If you have done mathematics in school, you would know that when we work out a problem sum, we would give a concluding statement with our calculated an...

Knowing the will of God (Part 1)

Matthew 6:8 8 “... For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him...." Many times, when we are at a crossroad, or when we couldn’t breakthrough in our situations, we feel that we are at the bottle-neck. We become absorbed in our situations. Even when we pray, we don’t know how to pray. And we have no faith to pray. We believe in God. But we can’t see the future. We don’t know what should our next step be. And we ask God, “Why am I in this situation?” We become lost and wonder what is God’s purpose for us, what is God’s will for us. BUT our Father God is a good God. The bible says: Our Father God knows the things we have in need of before we ask Him! In Luke 11, while Jesus was praying, one of His disciples said to Him: Luke 11: 1 … “Lord, teach us to pray, …” So before Jesus taught the disciples how to pray, Jesus first gave them the assurance that Father God is a good God. He knows the things we have need of before we ask Him...

The Author and Finisher of our faith

I am convinced, after being a Christian for almost 20 years, that our lives don't revolve around God. Even if we are actively serving Him in church or in the mission fields. Even if we are always praying and reading the Bible. Even if we are constantly in Christian fellowship and go for seminars and conferences apart from church services and cell group. The truth is, God Himself revolves around our lives, whether we like it or not. Before I became a Christian, I have had no encounters with God. But God had made sure that He places people and situations in my life to steer me towards Him. He knows the beginning till the end. He knows us inside out. He already knew how we would react and what we would say. Looking back, I saw myself going from a baby Christian, to a mature Christian, to a proud Christian, to a laid back Christian to a depressed Christian, and now a Christian on fire. A Christian on fire means, to desire God. Desire to know Him more. Desire to know His word ...

Don't Give Up; Don't Quit on God

We live in an imperfect, broken down world. Life is not a bed of roses and we will go through seasons of good and bad times. When all is well, it is easy to thank and praise God. But when things go wrong, can we still believe that He is good? Or we may even entertain thoughts of blaming God that He allows bad things to happen to us. God is not a schizophrenia. He is not good one day and bad the next. He is a good and unchanging God. The scriptures in Heb 13:8 assures us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. You may be encountering a roadblock. Things are stuck and you wonder if you will ever get out of this fix. There seems to be no solution and no way out. You may feel that you are stuck in a season and nothing will change in your situation. Our seasons in life is much liken to the four seasons of nature: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Seasons come and seasons go. Seasons change but never cease. Likewise our life seasons are constantly moving and they w...
